Settlement & Integration Support

Action for Healthy Communities (AHC) provides comprehensive, culturally responsive support to help newcomers and immigrants navigate the settlement process and build meaningful lives in Canada. Our services are tailored to meet the diverse needs of individuals at different stages of their journey, ensuring equitable access to information, resources, and community connections.

  • Permanent Residents: Receive individualized support with housing, language learning, employment search, community connections, and citizenship applications — all designed to promote stability and long-term integration
  • Naturalized Citizens: Continue their community engagement through ongoing access to information sessions, volunteer opportunities, and resources that foster belonging and participation in civic life.
  • Individuals Seeking Permanent Residency: Access guidance on the settlement and immigration process, cultural orientation, and referrals to programs that support a successful transition to permanent residency.
  • Others in Need of Support: AHC offers flexible, person-centered services for individuals in various immigration situations — including refugee claimants, sponsored family members, and those with temporary or unique statuses — helping them integrate confidently into Canadian society.

Through inclusive service delivery and community collaboration, AHC empowers newcomers to strengthen their independence, wellbeing, and sense of belonging in Alberta.

Our scope of supports include

Over time, AHC has worked to build the capacity of individuals and communities in vital areas for their successful integration into society, such as

  • one-on-one counselling and guidance, to help people transition and integrate into their new communities
  • group activities and programs, to support personal development, participation in society and knowledge about Canada
  • stakeholder engagement and partnerships, to build community connections and foster welcoming, inclusive environments for all

Land Acknowledgment

As an organization working towards improving peoples’ well being, we acknowledge our presence on Treaty 6 territory and Métis Nation of Alberta Region 4, a traditional meeting grounds, gathering place, and travelling route for the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Métis, Dene, Ojibway, Anishinaabe, Nakota Sioux, and Inuit, as our responsibility to extend support for healing to our Indigenous Community members during this difficult times. 
We acknowledge all the many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit whose footsteps have marked these lands for centuries and whose histories, languages, and cultures continue to influence our vibrant community.

As an organization, we commit ourselves to continue to acknowledge, learn, understand, and create opportunities to educate our staff, volunteers, and community members about the lived experiences of First Nations, Inuit and Métis, walking the path of reconciliation.
