Settlement and Integration Program

Action for Healthy Communities (AHC) provides comprehensive, culturally responsive support to help newcomers and immigrants navigate the settlement process and build meaningful lives in Canada. Our services are tailored to meet the diverse needs of individuals at different stages of their journey, ensuring equitable access to information, resources, and community connections.

  • Permanent Residents: Receive individualized support with housing, language learning, employment search, community connections, and citizenship applications — all designed to promote stability and long-term integration.
  • Naturalized Citizens: Continue their community engagement through ongoing access to information sessions, volunteer opportunities, and resources that foster belonging and participation in civic life.
  • Individuals Seeking Permanent Residency: Access guidance on the settlement and immigration process, cultural orientation, and referrals to programs that support a successful transition to permanent residency.
  • Others in Need of Support: AHC offers flexible, person-centered services for individuals in various immigration situations — including refugee claimants, sponsored family members, and those with temporary or unique statuses — helping them integrate confidently into Canadian society.

Through inclusive service delivery and community collaboration, AHC empowers newcomers to strengthen their independence, wellbeing, and sense of belonging in Alberta.

Training & Development

Workshops that strengthen practical skills for success in the Canadian job market — including digital literacy, communication, and workplace readiness.

Needs Assessment

Capacity Building

Community Connections

Language & Literacy

Year-Round Tax Clinic & Support

Information and assistance to help clients understand Canada’s tax system, file accurately, and maximize eligible benefits.

Information Sessions

Regular sessions on key settlement topics — such as healthcare, transportation, legal rights, and financial literacy — to support informed decision-making and confident integration.

Group Service Support is a collaborative and inclusive approach that brings together individuals with shared experiences, needs, or goals in a supportive group setting.

AHC’s trained Settlement Team provides individualized and family-based support through a personalized, client-centered approach.

At AHC, referrals are an essential part of our settlement services, ensuring newcomers across Alberta can access the right supports at the right time.

The AHC Community Connection Program helps newcomers build meaningful relationships and feel at home in their new communities.

I came to AHC in January 2025 looking for support with updating my status with the CRA and help with my Canadian citizenship application. My case worker assisted me with the CRA-related issues. At the same time, he helped me through the entire citizenship application process. They guided me in creating an account on the Canadian Citizenship portal, filling out the application online, uploading all the required documents, and paying the fees. Their support made the process much easier and less stressful for me, and I’m very thankful for their help.

Since 2023, my case worker in AHC has supported my family and me through important milestones. He first helped us update our names on our Permanent Resident cards. More recently, he guided us through the Canadian citizenship application process—creating an online account, completing the forms, uploading documents, and paying the fees.
