Why Sports Matter: The Key to Health, Growth, and Connection

Boost Physical Wellbeing:

Regular participation enhances fitness, strength, and coordination—while reducing the risk of chronic conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and obesity.

Mental Wellbeing Through Movement

Sports help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression—boosting mood and mental health through active play, endorphin release, and social connection.

Building Social Skills

Team sports cultivate communication, collaboration, and empathy—fostering strong relationships and a sense of belonging.

Discipline & Focus

Through sports, youth develop time management, goal setting, and perseverance—skills that support focus and long-term success.

Leadership Through Sport:

Build leadership, resilience, and teamwork skills that empower youth to succeed both on and off the field.

Referee & Coaching Training

In partnership with Soccer Alberta, newcomer youth have the opportunity to gain official referee certification and coaching experience—opening doors to leadership roles in sport and beyond.

Aditti Akkinen

ELYCA Participant

The Youth Work Exposure Program provided me with the necessary training to find a job, particularly, working with children and youth. The sessions on workplace communication and child development taught me a lot, which gave me the confidence to apply for other jobs. I am doing well in the job interviews by applying the knowledge I gained from the program.
